Our Inalienable Rights
Please pray for our country today.  Please ask God to inspire and motivate the citizens of our nation to demand protection of our basic rights; to awaken the apathetic and create in them an awareness of the tenuous condition of our precious constitution.

I was sitting with my brother yesterday.  He is an intelligent, hard working person who, when I spoke about the Cap and Trade bill just passed by the US House of Representatives, asked “What’s Cap and Trade?”

God help us.

There is an excellent column in this morning’s CdA Press by local resident William Green.  I don’t know Mr. Green but he put words to my thoughts today.  He describes the Founding Fathers and their fight for independence: “This new government would understand its role not as a giver of rights but only as the protector and guarantor of rights already given by the Creator and in that sense intrinsic and inalienable.”

He writes of the Constitution, “It outlines the ideas for a government that would derive its powers only from the consent of the governed and not from the arrogant assumption that only government is possessed of all wisdom.”

Guest columns in the Press are not typically carried online, so try to get a newspaper and read Mr. Green's full column, it is well worth the effort.

Happy 4th of July to you all --- hope you enjoy the wonderful weather and our great community.  God bless America.
