The City's Pulse Newsletter

Election Alert!

Dear Newsletter Readers,

The summer may be winding down but the local election season is certainly heating up!  The lineups for many local elections have been recently announced, though the final deadline for candidates is not until this Friday.

I know many of you are political independents, some are Democrats and some are Republicans.  But our local city elections cross over all the boundaries between us; the issues affect every single person: The McEuen Field fiasco, public employee raises when we have 12% unemployment, LCDC's urban renewal abuse, and the list goes on.

Well, now it's time to take action and even if you're not a Republican, you are invited to the Reagan Republican fundraising dinner.  The RR's are a volunteer group that actually gets busy and walks the neighborhoods of our community, passing out information and letting people know about the importance of the upcoming election.  The RR's are looking for responsible local governance with fiscal accountability, lower taxation, higher emphasis on a job creation environment, and giving the public a true voice before Millions and Millions of dollars are spent  removing a wonderful boat launch & historic ball field.

The fundraising dinner will be held on:
Saturday September 17, 2011
Social Hour 5:30-6:30pm - Dinner 6:30pm
At the Ballroom at Templin's Red Lion Resort, Post Falls
$40.00 per ticket and $320.00 to sponsor a table of eight

To reserve tickets, please contact
Dinner Chairman Doug Shevalier call at 208-772-2236 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting            208-772-2236      end_of_the_skype_highlighting  or email at dshevalier@frontier.com

The sooner you can reserve, the better, because they need a head count.

On a quick final note, did you see the CdA City Council meeting on Channel 19 last night?  It was nauseating to hear the city council talk glowingly about the raises for city employees. Everyone will get a 3% raise and almost half of those will also get another 5% in merit pay, which means they showed up and did a "standard or better" job.

Deanna said the city has wonderful employees and they deserve these raises.  Mike Kennedy tried to spin it by saying the citizens are getting extra value.

Maybe the council doesn't realize that the unemployment rate in their own city is stuck at 12%, even now during "high season".  And that real people are having trouble paying their taxes and the increased city fees because, even if they are lucky enough to have a job, they haven't had a raise for several years, their hours have been cut and / or their benefits have been reduced.

CdA is the only city in our area, I believe, that has an Employee Union.  The County doesn't either.  Food for thought.

Did I mention our City Council elections are coming up this November 8th?

Maybe that fundraising dinner is looking a little more important...?

My best to you,

Mary
